Hm...

Hiya...
I have not posted in a considerable time. But I figure after two weeks of "abuse"; my lack of geographical knowledge and apparent lack of will to protect my family from harm I thought it might be time.

In my defense, I have never left North America, and as such, I could give a rats pattootie about the weather in areas I most likely will never go to. It just never came up that the seasons were reversed, I had friends in Australia, so I was aware of the seasonal difference, but did not really think that one through to its completion.

And about being able to sleep through an apparent intruder, when I looked out the window the first time I noticed...'hey we still have 8 inches of snow in front of the house'...not seeing any depressions in the snow, I offered up my thoughts the first time Carrie heard the noise, that it was the snow melting off of our eaves troughs.

But all that aside, I see that my lovely and talented wife is keeping up with the blog very nicely; what's going on in my life? Well I am awaiting my books for school so that I can upgrade my apprentice year in plumbing. I have a 3 step plan, get books (already ordered 11 days ago, 2-3 weeks delivery), study books, challenge exam and get a significant raise. Following that, wait 3 or 4 months, get next year of books, study, and challenge that as well, earning another significant raise. Following that with much rejoicing.

I'm enjoying the time I spend with my little girl who is getting to be a handful at times, but a constant and real joy in my life.

Oh my wife is home, see you again in 2-3 months =P

The last thing you want to hear outside your window at midnight, is the sound of footsteps. Not on the street, but RIGHT outside your window.

I heard this last night, and woke Bryan up. I said that there was someone out there. He got up, looked out the window, and said nothing was there, and then went back to bed.

Bryan falls asleep before his head hits the pillow.

Great. I'm going to have to fend off a home invasion all by myself.

A few minutes pass, and I hear footsteps again. This time I made Bryan listen until he heard them too. He looked out the window, but the sounds stopped again.

He went and turned on the front porch light - I thought this would send whoever was out there packing. We've had the windows open all day, I thought that maybe some wierdo was checking things out.

More footsteps.

Bryan looks out the front window and comes back after about 5 minutes. He says he knows what's going on. Our 'intruder'?

About two feet tall, white, with really big black ears.

A jackrabbit. A stupid, night owl, should be sleeping and not lurking under my windows, jack rabbit.

It took a while for my blood pressure to go back down. That bunny is on borrowed time, especially if he's the one that ate some of the bark off Lily's tree.

It's important that your significant other makes you laugh. Mine does.

Tonight's gem?

We were watching TV and a commercial for Chilean produce came on. Something to the effect that it is summer in Chile right now, so enjoy the produce.

Bryan asks "It's summer in Chile right now? Wow, I thought that was only in Australia."

I don't think he was paying attention when the equator and the earth's hemispheres were being explained in geography class.

So, honey, just for you:

Climates in the southern hemisphere overall tend to be slightly milder than those in the northern hemisphere except in the Antarctic which is colder than the Arctic. This is because the southern hemisphere has significantly more ocean and less land. Water heats up and cools down more slowly than land. The southern hemisphere is also significantly less polluted than the northern hemisphere because of lower overall population densities (a total of 10 to 12% of the human population), lower levels of industrialisation, and smaller land masses (air currents run mostly west–east so pollution does not easily spread north or south).

In the southern hemisphere the sun passes from east to west through the north, although north of the tropic of Capricorn the Mean sun can be directly overhead or due south at midday. The sun rotating through the north causes an apparent right-left trajectory through the sky unlike the left-right motion of the sun when seen from the northern hemisphere as it passes through the southern sky. Sun-cast shadows turn anticlockwise through the day (sun dials have the hours in reverse). Hurricanes and tropical storms spin clockwise in the southern hemisphere (as opposed to counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere) due to the Coriolis effect. A fact often missed is that in the southern hemisphere, the Moon appears to be upside-down compared to the view from the northern hemisphere, or, for people in the south, the northerners have an upside-down image of it.

The southern temperate zone, a subsection of the southern hemisphere, is nearly all oceanic. The only countries that lie entirely within this zone are Uruguay, Lesotho and New Zealand. Countries lying partly in the zone are Chile (most of), Argentina (most of), Paraguay, Brazil, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa (most of), Mozambique, Madagascar and Australia.

The south pole is oriented towards the galactic center and this, combined with clearer skies, makes for excellent viewing of the night sky from the southern hemisphere, with brighter and more numerous stars.

Evan was a bit under the weather yesterday, so our playdate day didn't go as planned. Lily thought she would show some sympathy and hang out on the couch too. First she thought that she should have Evan's blanket. Then she wanted to sit ON him rather than with him. Her own blankie and a pillow to separate them was just the trick.

Hope you're feeling better soon Mr E!

L: Mine.
C: Hot!
L: Mine.
C: Hot!
L: Hot?
C: Yes, mine.
L: Oh.

This was the conversation I had with Lily this morning, in regards to my coffee cup.

Mute.

I shouldn't have posted Lily's word list. Somehow she knew that I was telling people what she could say, and now she won't say anything!

Well, almost. She has now substituted 'down' for up.

She must be as bored as I am, due to being cooped up in the house because of the deep freeze outside. Today we went to a local store that carries really neat baby items. (I can't say what I bought because the wee men I bought things for have mommies that read my blog!) The owner has done a great job at making the space super mom and kid friendly. She has a train table and other toys for kiddies to play with, and there is nothing breakable at kid level. The store unleashed all the words she's been holding in this week! Lily tore around the store talking up a storm.

Mumma? Baby! Hi! Whada? Oh. Hi! Bye! Door? Pizzapizza. Mumma... etc etc.

She even waved and said bye as we left the store.

When we came home we found Bryan home a bit early. I passed him little Miss Chatty and told him I was going to shovel snow. He said he would do it. I replied that I didn't particularly care how cold it was, I was shovelling and he could empty the dishwasher. I am SO tired of being inside that I would rather be cold. So I shovelled. And then announced that we were going out for dinner because I wanted to. I even said I would pay. Ah, the best laid plans.

We gave Lily a snack before we left, and then went to our local Boston Pizza. They are pretty kid friendly - you don't have to worry if your kids are noisy. Lily is usually really good when we go out to eat. Tonight, for no reason, she tore off her bib and burst into tears. (Maybe it was the bug shaped pasta in the kids meal.) This went on for about 10 minutes. So in between tears and bib replacement, I inhaled my dinner. Couldn't tell you if it was good, bad or otherwise. I didn't even finish my drink. Bryan beat me to the debit machine and paid for dinner while I wrestled Lily into her boots coat and hat. After dinner, I wanted to go wander around Walmart for a while, but that wasn't to be. Someone had to poo. Sigh.

What age do they have to be before you can enjoy a meal in peace and leisure? Please don't tell me 18, because I don't think I'll make it.
