NESTING?
So today I did the following...
Vacuumed
Cleaned out the fridge
Sorted stuff that I brought home from work
Moved a bookcase (empty)
Sewed
Folded laundry
Made dinner
And I have more to do...
I hope this is a sign that the baby is coming soon!

Just for fun, we left getting a rocker or glider for the baby's room to the last minute. Today I went and placed the order for it - hopefully it will be here shortly after Peanut arrives. This is what it looks like, but in cherry to match the crib, and without the ottoman... it's super comfy - important for me because it will be my spot for many, many nights to come.
We went with denim, because it was the only fabric that would not attract cat hair. Everything else was chenille, or fluffy& light in color. While it would be nice to assume that Leo will stay out of the chair, I'm realistic. They don't make a grey and orange furry fabric, so denim was the best choice.
We'll put a basket in the baby's room, with a soft pillow in the hopes that Leo will sleep there, and not try to occupy the chair or worse, the crib. He has a healthy respect for the crib now that we have had a 'discussion' about him wanting to try it out.

I live to post again!
Granted, I have to use the spellcheck now; forgive me because well... You may not know this of me. *hangs head in shame* but I have a problem, I cannae spell, and one word I always misspell, aside from misspell, is well actually there's a bunch of them.
Anywho...
One of my friends was asking me about Carries' blog, I said, you mean our blog? Nope you don't have a visible post on it, must be hers and hers alone, so I am here to right that injustice! Well or at least buffer it, because I am uncertain whether or not I will be able to keep up enough posting to keep one on the page; I'll try though.
So, recent things, well Carrie has covered most of them, I am disliking the heat, disliking the amount of sun accompanying it, disliking most to all things associated with the heat and aforementioned sun. Aside from that, I slowly but surely see our house filling up with all this other stuff which well at current neither of us are using.
Is it wrong of me to want my wife to go into labor sometime very very soon, maybe yes, maybe no, but hell I would definitely be agreeable to the baby being early.
I think the guys at the Mohawk on the corner are getting to know me by name now, I have gone over there so many times in the past week and a bit for slurpies.
With this heat its definitely slowing down my reading, still reading the Simillarion, the first Tolkein book....Its a dry read to start with, and well right now it makes my head bob; great if I cannae sleep.
Anyways, that's enough of my babbling for now, I'll babble more later, of that I am certain.

So today I was talking to my grandma, and she was asking about our preparations for the baby. (Grandma has taken to calling Peanut 'Penelope-Ann') We're almost ready, just need a rocking chair, and to hang some pictures in the room. She asked if Bryan was getting excited...
Well, I think he is, but he's been pretty quiet about it. So I asked him this afternoon. He was pretty open with the fact that he's bored with me being pregnant and just wants to meet this little person. Well, I'm bored with it too, and can't wait to meet our Peanut! He said he's worried about money (what first time parent doesn't?) and whether or not he'll be a good dad. I said he'll be fine. Besides, the kid has no idea that we don't know what we are doing! That's the joy of a tiny helpless infant that doesn't do much other than eat, pee, poo and sleep.
That's when he came up with this analogy:
(Please, all of you, remember this so you can tease him later.)
A baby is like a stationary cat that poops.
I'm so glad I married a man that makes me laugh.

It was 19 degrees at 730 am this morning.
It's too hot. Way too hot.
I'm packing my bags and going to live in the freezer section of Costco. I believe that they have walk in (waddle in?) coolers too. My dad suggested a beer cooler, but I really don't want to have to explain why a 9 month pregnant woman wants to spend time in one. It's much easier to explain why I'm sitting on pallets of ice cream.
Here's hoping I get frostbite...

I woke up this morning to a strange sight...
I was dozing, halfway between awake and asleep. I heard what I thought were birds outside the window. The magpies often sit on the corner of the house, so I am used to hearing scratchy type noises out there. Then I saw the shadowy outline of a squirrel ON THE SCREEN! Our little friend Finnegan...
Contrast the shadow of the squirrel with the shadow of a very large grey cat. Leo launched himself from a full out sleeping cat to attack cat in nanoseconds. He didn't quite calculate that the distance from the bed to the top of the window is a little different than top of window to floor. I don't know who was more surprised, the squirrel or the cat.
Sometimes Mother Nature is better than an alarm clock...

Why is it that you always catch a cold as soon as you go on summer vacation? It's like the bug was waiting for me to relax and BAM! there it was. Now I have a bowling ball in my head and in my belly.
I hope the cold goes away quickly - a normal person could dose up on Nyquil and call it a night... I have to settle for Tylenol and some Benadryl. At least it helps me sleep a bit. Until I have to get up to pee. Again. And again. And again.
Someone told me it's Mother Nature's way of preparing you for midnight, 2am, 4am and 6am feedings. Oh well, I'll get to sleep again someday. 20 years from now. But I signed up for this, so I guess I will survive.
Can you please pass the kleenex?

BUGS!
Today was my last day at work, and the great girls I work with surprised me with a few things - flowers, cards, baby clothes and stuffed toys. Alisha told me she would paint me a ladybug for Peanut's room, and this is what I found on my desk this morning... a butterfly, a caterpillar, a lady bug and a dragonfly...
They are absolutely amazing! I can't wait to frame them
and put them up. I love that they are painted by someone I know.
The colors are so vibrant, and not at all babyish, so these will work in Peanut's room now, and when he/she is going through their rock posters on the wall phase in the very distant future.
It was a bittersweet day - I was happy to finally be done work, but I will miss the fun we all have. I have been looking forward to today for a long time.
I'm finally free to spend time getting ready for this little person, and to spend some time looking after myself.
Bryan is happy that I will finally have some time to rest, both physically and mentally.
I really don't know what I will do with myself in the 2 weeks vacation I have. Hopefully Peanut won't surprise us and come too early! I have a few things planned, but really I want to do a lot of nothing. I have worked in some way or another from the time I was 12 (Babysitting the neighbor's kids - now all in their 20's!) Other than a few months here and there when I was in between jobs, this will be the first time I have ever had off from work.

I have always worked in the service industry, where I have had constant contact with the public, so the adjustment from that to spending most of my time with Peanut and more time than I'm used to with my husband, will be a bit of a challenge.
I'm glad that my dad is retired now, because he will be around when I need some adult company and conversation. Mom is going to be working less, so she will be there for me too. I'm sure it won't take a lot of convincing if I need a babysitter now and then. My brother is home for the summer, so he will not miss the arrival of the baby - I can't wait to officially call him Uncle Craig!
We'll get to spend some special time with my great aunties - they are just tickled about the baby! If Peanut wants, I'm sure that Auntie Ann would not object to sharing a birthday. We have a few birthdays in the first week of August, starting with Leocat, Auntie Ann, Molly-dog, and my mother in law Pat. Time will tell!
Looking forward to a great summer...

Yikes! We are now 35 weeks pregnant...
This is the point at which Peanut could arrive any time. Some babies come early, some come late. We'll settle for in between, but they come when they come.
We were at prenatal classes at the hospital this weekend. I'm glad I have done a ton of reading, or it would have been information overload. Bryan has done less reading, so he may be in the 'overwhelmed father-to-be' state right now. Or, he may have been reading my books when I am not around, and is perfectly fine with everything. I don't know for sure. Like most guys, he is reluctant to talk about a lot of the things he may be worried about. I've tried, but he doesn't always like to share. It would help me if he did, then I wouldn't feel so lost about some things, as I'm sure we are both worried about the same stuff, but just haven't talked about it.
My main source of comfort is that I was lucky enough to be able to be there for my girlfriend Christine when her daughter Indica was born. She asked me to be her labor coach, and it was truly one of the most beautiful and humbling experiences. I am still amazed at the strength and grace that Chris showed while giving birth to her child. I'm not afraid of the process (nervous about it - yes!) that I am about to go through, because I have seen what a woman's body is capable of. I only hope that I can find the same strength within myself when our time comes.
Her daughter was born 8 years ago on July 4th. While some memories fade, being there to see that little person come into the world will stay with me forever. I love that I knew she was a girl before her mom did, and that somehow, everyone in the room stayed quiet about it until Chris picked her up and said "It's a girl!" I love that she didn't cry when she came out, but that she sneezed instead. I love that I still have the picture of Indica in my arms (you can't see her face, it looks like I'm holding the laundry) with the clock in the background - she was only 3 minutes old! (The rest of the picture shows Chris breathing through the nitrous oxide mask while the doctor was doing other 'stuff', which still makes us giggle when we talk about it!) 8 years later, she is a bright, artistic and independent girl that paints and draws and runs track and wants to be a doctor when she grows up. (At least that's the career path this month...)
Now it's my turn.
I think we are ready for this. We have the baby's room mostly done (furniture is in place, just needs to be arranged), we have newborn clothes, a car seat and stroller, diapers and all that other stuff. I'm off work soon, and will be making some more meals for the freezer so Bryan doesn't have to eat something out of a box, or from Dairy Queen across the street. We have asked the grandparents what it is they want to be called - grandma and grandpa seems to work for both sets, so that was an easy one. Aunts and uncles are easy, until we have to start explaining the extended family, with great grandparents, great aunts and uncles and great-great aunts and uncles. Then there are the 'honorary' aunties - friends from work, my girls Chris and Amy and Keltie, Bryan's boys Darcy & Chris, Dave & Marnie. That's a lot of family!
One year ago today Bryan asked me to marry him. I waited a long time to find a person that would share my dreams and my home, and help create my own family. I'm so happy it was him, and I'm glad our little family of two will be three very soon.
