Stanley Cup - here we come! Raffi scored the winning goal for us...what a game!

I don't think that Peanut will have any issue with loud noises after tonight's game.

One of the girls at work is leaving, so we surprised her by showing up for the 'dinner' Tracy was taking her out to at the pub next to our store. Coincidentally, it was Game 5 of the conference final between Edmonton and the not-so-Mighty Ducks. She'll never forget her going away!

The bar was loud and wild and a ton of fun! I had to tell Tracy that if the excitement put me into early labor, that my OB's telephone number is programmed into my cell phone...Everything was and is fine. I drank way too much Coke and water, to the point that the men's washroom was looking appealing...Bylaws need to be changed everywhere, women's washrooms MUST be at least 2/3 bigger than the men's.

At least I wasn't drinking beer like the other pregnant woman in the bar. Yes, beer. Didn't notice she was pregnant until she lifted her shirt to show her new maternity jeans off to her bar buddies. Nice... Then again, maybe she felt pressured to drink because of the waitress. Becky and Tracy still had to work and drive tonight, and I'm pregnant, so we were all drinking Coke or iced tea. To save time, the waitress was bringing out 2 and 3 refills at a time. We had ordered food as well, so it's not like we weren't paying customers. After the 3rd round of double refills, she told us she would have to start charging us 'extra' because we were drinking so much pop! Hello? So stop bringing us extra pop...I think she just wanted us to order something alcoholic. I briefly flirted with the idea of rubbing my belly and telling her that the baby wanted a Strongbow, but I don't think she had much of a sense of ha-ha. She wouldn't have gotten it...

And I would have had a Strongbow sitting in front of me...

It's a good thing that I am not due this month, or even in June. The NHL playoffs would have put me into early labor...

Tonight's game was pretty entertaining, but if I want my blood pressure to stay where it should, the Oilers can't blow another 4 goal lead again. At least they won...1 more to go.

Had my latest OB appointment today, everything looks good. I gained another 2 lbs this month. I know that the next 2 1/2 months will bring more of this, but it will be all baby. My books say that the baby probably weighs about 3lbs at this point, so it has about 4 1/2 or 5 lbs to go. Hello belly! Tomorrow I have to go for my RH shot, and my glucose tolerance test. This involves a shot in the... -well, you can guess where- and drinking a really gross sugar drink and donating a vial or two of blood. Luckily needles don't bother me.

My doc wants to see me every two weeks from now on. I can't believe how fast this is going by. We have 11 weeks left - well, more if you ask my mom, who says that the baby will be late. Here's hoping she's wrong. I had to give my emergency information to the hospital today. Of course Bryan is the first on my list, but mom is second. Since she works at the same hospital Peanut will be born at, all they would have to do is run up (or down?) to her office. If being a night owl is in any way a genetic trait, then this kid will be born in the middle of the night...most likely we will be making a late night/early morning phone call to our parents.

80 days and counting.

Things the dog tried to eat on Sunday...

A bee
A thumbtack
Ants

It's like a having a toddler, but on 4 legs instead of 2. Ever try to remove a thumbtack from the mouth of a Labrador?

It's only slightly safer than trying to remove a bee.

Adventures with Molly...

Mom and Dad are in Boston for the week, and since Molly can't co-habitate with cats, we are staying at their house to dog sit.

So far it's been pretty uneventful. The weather has been really hot, which slows the dog (and us!) down considerably. We stay up later than Mom & Dad, so Molly is not that energetic in the morning, another good thing. We are not morning people.

Bryan's best moment was on a walk on Wednesday - he was walking along the path by Ekota School, when he came upon a group of young boys, probably aged 6 or 7. They had squirt guns, and asked him:

"Can we squirt your dog?"

Molly LOVES water, so this was an easy one - Bry said they could, as long as it wasn't in the face.
(To which one of the boys said, "Just like I can't shoot my little brother...")
The kids let loose with their Super Soakers and Molly loved it.

I've been putting the sprinkler system on each night, and she has a 'favorite' sprinkler. She bites and chases the water as it goes around, and has a blast. She gets wet and tired, and keeps cool, and (some of them) the plants get watered. So far she has kept out of the pond.

Today I took her to work to visit the girls. She was really good until we had to leave. The store has automatic doors, which Molly entered when we came in. When we were leaving, she was NOT using the same doors. Dug her heels in, refused to move and wouldn't even accept a bribe to come outside. She ended up sneaking up on the doors, around a concrete pillar and out, so the doors wouldn't 'get' her.

So far dad has only called once to see how his girl was doing...

He wasn't talking about me...

I had to turn off comments on the last post because some nosy twit decided he was really clever and barged in on my blog. While this is a public forum, it still doesn't give people the right to leave stupid comments about my posts.

Call Guinness...or just drink some for me...

I just about fell off my chair. You'll never guess who called on Friday. Yes folks, Babies'r'Us. We finally have a crib. They called and left me a message that they had one on hold for me, so Bryan and I borrowed the truck from Mom and Dad and went and picked it up.

When I got back from swapping the truck for my car, Bryan said that Babies'r'Us called to see "If we were still interested..." Bryan told them the crib was currently sitting 10 feet away from him in our front hall... Okay, so they aren't that organized, but at least we have a place for Peanut to sleep, and another piece of furniture to chase Leocat off. We are getting him a special basket that will be in the baby's room, so he doesn't try to sneak into the crib. I'm sure there will be a few incidents.

Another miracle: (well not a miracle, but a pretty good thing anyway) Bryan voluntarily mowed the lawn. And I didn't even ask! I don't think it would pass the Brian Carbol school of groundskeeping, but it's done. (He missed a few spots...)

And we discovered wasps. I hate wasps with a passion, it is my one irrational fear. What's worse is they were IN one of my planters. Not on, in. So we drowned them. Hopefully they are gone, or I will never be able to use my front door again.

Small victories.

So we are starting to get things together for the baby's room. Some things are coming together really well. I found some great fabric for the crib bumpers, and have found matching things here and there. It would be really nice if the furniture gods would bless us, as the crib is another story.

I told you about the crib in a previous post. Well, it looks like our little one will have to sleep in a drawer. I'm not kidding. Babies 'R' Us has a beautiful new catalog out - the crib we love is the first one featured in this new catalog. Three weeks ago I went to the store to see if they had one. No stock, so I asked the clerk to check other stores for me. Not a single one to be had in any Alberta store, and none on order. Great thing to feature in a catalog folks...Special order? Nope, it's a 'regular stock' item. To me, this means that you actually have to have it in stock, or at least on order. Not at Babies 'R' Us. I emailed their so-called customer service department to ask if they could transfer one in for me from BC, or if they could make an exception and special order it in. Four emails and two weeks later, they are still telling me to keep checking on line or at a local store. They still haven't answered on the special order or transfer question, so I gave up and emailed the manufacturer. They responded the NEXT DAY (wow, real customer service!) and told me that I can get the crib at the Bay. I called the Bay today, and they told me it's a minimum 10 week order. These are made in Vancouver. So unless they are sending each side of the crib indidually, via marmot express over the mountains, I can't see how it would take 70 days for a crib to be put in a truck or even a rail container, to make it's way from Vancouver to Edmonton.
I emailed the manufacturer again to see if they know of any other retailer that can get it to us sooner.

On a lighter note, Auntie Amy took us shopping, and bought Peanut his/her baby shower gift. Amy is moving to Norman Wells NWT in the next couple of months, so she won't be around for the shower after the baby is born. She bought Peanut an Excersaucer, some froggie bath stuff, and two stripey jumpers. Here's the Excersaucer.

More adventures in furniture coming soon...

PS - Only 13 weeks to go...

Hello again all, so...yesterday an amazing thing happened. For the first time ever, the baby kicked me, my beautiful wife has life inside her! In case any of you were unaware of that fact.
That and my friend Darcy needs to answer his phone on his birthday, that is all...

Achoo! Bless you...Achoo! Bless you...Achoo! Bless you...

Yes, I am sneezing. Constantly. I managed to escape the usual snow mold allergies this year because we only had snow on the ground for 14 days. Mother Nature always gets even though.

We received a ton of bedding plants at work today, so the pollen was flying high there. Whee! Achoo! Bless me...

Then I came home to play in the yard. Big mistake. The lawn needed to be mowed, and Bryan's only allergy is to the lawn mower (although he did prime and start it for me before I came home.) Thus, I mow the lawn. I am my father's daughter in this respect, as I actually enjoy mowing the lawn. Because dad was well, particular, about this aspect of yardwork when I was growing up, I didn't actually mow a lawn until I was 25. So it doesn't hold the 'chore' stigma that others may hold to the task. Anyway, I fired up the lawn mower. Achoo, achoo, achoo. I'm sure my neighbors had a good laugh at my expense, 6 months pregnant, sneezing and mowing the lawn. If only there was a way to put a Kleenex holder on the mower...

I came inside, and decided that was enough, and called the pharmacy to see what I can safely take for allergies while pregnant.

You guessed it...

NOTHING!

Well, she did suggest a humidifier, but that's not portable enough to use while mowing. Sigh.

Her other suggestion was a saline spray, which I would only use if I wanted my nose to run more than it is already.

Peanut, you are more than worth it, but Mommy isn't very happy about sneezing right now.

73 days to go...including days off. That makes 53 days or so of work. Honestly, I'm ready to go now. I just want to focus on feeling good, and taking care of my husband and my home, and getting ready for Peanut. I know that I will have lots and lots of time to think about this when I am done work for the year, and will probably ask myself - What was I thinking? Where are all the grown ups? Will Bryan bring home dinner? Does anyone know how to make this kid stop/start (fill in the blank) ? How can I get a shower? I can't look at these walls any longer! etc etc...

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I like to 'do it myself' and have been pretty adamant about maintaining my independence in my adult life. I have to admit that since meeting Bryan, I am learning to let go of that. He no longer has to make 'the face' when I walk ahead and open my own doors, because I have learned to wait and let him do that. It's nice to have someone to carry the heavy groceries, and to help with shopping and other things. I have a great partner, friend and husband, who will make a great dad. In the next year I will have to rely on him even more, as my source of financial support, as a parent to our child, as a friend, when he will probably be the only adult I see on a day to day basis.

This year was a big one - since January of 2005, Bryan moved in, we got engaged and married, are expecting a child, and are starting on a pretty big reno project very soon. Some may ask if we are completely insane in tackling all of this in such a short period of time. They may be right. If I was younger, I would probably not have the life experience to realize that I can do all of this, and do it well. At 33, I've lived enough to know how to cope with the crazy things that life can throw one's way. (See Sept 26,2005 post for details!) Hopefully I can keep my head on straight most of the time, and remember to laugh at the things that happen along the way. Sometimes you can't do anything else. It may boil down to a choice between laughing and crying, or both.

May the laughter win.
