Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Tonight we are putting up our outdoor Christmas lights. We bought some of the LED lights in cobalt blue - should look really pretty with the snow!

The verdict on the tv should be in today...the repair guys came in and took a lot of parts out of the tv and left a sad empty shell for Bryan to stare at. They thought it could be fixed for around $200, so I don't think we will have to get a new one.

Off to Vancouver on Friday morning for some r&r and girl time with my mom.

It's a good thing Bryan isn't much of a football fan. I'm sure he would have more to say about watching the Grey Cup this weekend on the teeny tiny tv at Auntie Eleanor's house on Sunday! Dad called him tonight to ask him if he was watching tv...
This is fun!

I have the next 2 days off....hmm what to do?
After I wait for the Epcor people to change my water meter, I may go to Shopper's with Amy. Epcor is supposed to be here between 12 and 3. I am out of the house at exactly 3:01. It's a long story, but let's just say I'm not a fan of their service department right now.

Friday I get to hang out with my mom. We are going to the Italian Centre Shop to exchange pasta. Mom has accumulated enough pasta in her pantry that she can use it for currency at the shop. (Or maybe she can work a deal out with one of the regulars - bootlegging linguine in the parking lot.) The last time we were there, I was fascinated with the way the little old Italian men inspected every bottle of olive oil and vinegar they touched. One man would pick up a bottle of oil, turn it around, hold it up to the light, and then put it back on the shelf while shaking his head. Then he moved on to the next bottle. I would hate to see what he was like at the deli counter!

Ciao!

PS - The TV doctor makes house calls... We'll find out on Saturday if the beast can be revived.

Alas, my tv...is dead.
My wife has probably posted ahead of me no doubt, and relayed the sad tidings.
Now i am torn, to get a newer, lighter tv, or to get the old one (its nearly 3 years old)
some service work done. A little background, its a 32" jvc I-art flat screen, and its... according to the manual, 148 pounds, which is a little on the hefty side to try to drag about without a proper vehicle to move it in. Hence my dilemma.
Carrie, my beautiful wife, is over my shoulder, telling me to post about her tv, a 15 year old rca, and you can tell its 15 years old, no plug ins or anything for that; hooking up the dvd player to it involves disconnecting the satellite from it; fun oh fun!
Alas poor horatio, i die....or in this case, my tv dies...
And now for something completely different, the other day we had a HUGE windstorm, winds gusting to nearly 100km/hour, which i dont know why they measure winds at that speed, honestly its not going to be blowing for an hour, shouldn't there be a more accurate system to that, perhaps something mentioning about sheering force or the like?
Anyways, i am torn what to do about my tv, to get a newer/lighter model or fix the old one....and to find out how much it might be, i'd have to pack it up and visit one of the jvc electronic service outlets, there are two in the city. Oh well i'll call them tomorrow and outline the issues, perhaps they can give me a ballpark estimate.
And i think that concludes my ranting...
NO WAIT! I actually look at this as somewhat of karma, this week i tried in vain i might add to get 2 ps2 games which just came out, no matter where i went i was thwarted, THWARTED i say! So at least i don't have the new games and no tv to play them on, that would have augmented my sense of annoyance.
Anyways, ranting done for the moment, enjoy :)
I am sad to announce...
That Bryan's tv has passed on to another plane of the universe.
He didn't believe me when I said that the blurred edges were just due to dust on the screen. I thought that the tv turning itself off without warning was that it had had enough video games, anime, and Simpson's for the day.
Looks like I was the one that was wrong. I ignored the signs that our poor tv needed some tlc. If only I had read the manual...I would have known that the flashing green light was a cry for help...."Fix me! Fix me!"
We are now watching tv on my ancient RCA. It's a bit small, but it works. Except there are not enough input outlets, so no video games, and no dvd's.
TV hospital is not what it used to be, so my dear husband is debating whether or not to buy a new tv, or send it in for some love.
Please observe a moment of silence for his dear dear friend.

So Bryan had to have a tetanus shot this week. He cut himself at work, and called me to ask if he should go get one...
Hmm...
  • Did you cut yourself on metal? Yup!
  • Was it rusty? Yup, really!
  • Can you remember when you last had a tetanus shot? Nope!

I told him to go...

So off to the clinic he went. He seemed fine on Tuesday night, but Wednesday was another story! His reaction to the shot was quite adverse....

It went from a sore arm, to fatigue, progressing into a migraine with nausea and the works. It was a fun evening... the cats were not sure why Bryan was in the bathroom calling the toilet really rude names... (it turns out he was talking to his stomach)

Today he was much better, and to my delight, showed up at home with a dozen roses for me!

I promise to make sure the cats don't eat them.

So this weekend we are house and Molly sitting for mom and dad. I'm waiting for the call from Dad that starts - "So how's my girl?"

The answer is not "I'm fine Dad." He wants to know how his dog is.

So far no call...

We've had adventures in sleet so far. We were both too busy trying to keep frozen rain out of our eyes to see what it was that she was picking up and eating on her walk. Hopefully it was only dirty soggy kleenex. Yucky, I know, but consider the multitude of alternative items a dog could possible consume on a walk and you'll understand why we are hoping for kleenex.

I have no idea if she was fed before mom and dad left this afternoon. Anyone with a dog, Labradors in particular, knows that you can't ask a dog if it's been fed. They lie. Like a dog.

So, mom and dad, she's been fed twice tonight. It all comes out in the end anyway...

We let the cat out of the bag at the wedding, that we are trying to start a family right away. We are now learning what the word "trying" means.

Trying to start a family tries your patience in many ways. When you know you aren't pregnant yet and every woman you see is expecting. When every commercial on TV has a baby in it. When people at work look at you and ask "So? Anything yet?" When you get a cold but can't take anything other than Tylenol because you might or might not be and you don't want to take anything that you shouldn't. When you really want to buy that cute new sweater or skirt but don't, just in case. When you want to have that latte or glass of wine but shouldn't. When you know you need to avoid stress in order to get pregnant, but the getting pregnant is what is causing the stress.

I have gone through a lot of really difficult times in the past 10 years (see 33rd birthday post) but I think that this is going to rank right up there. I know that it will be worth it, but the journey there might be a bit bumpy.

On a lighter note, does anyone have a 1988 Camero we can borrow? Promise we'll have it back before curfew - especially if it's a school night. This method seems to work for 17 year olds that don't want to get pregnant, we thought we'd give it a try...
