BOOM!

Mumma. Raining? More? More.

Matching Quinny strollers...

Yes Lily, it's raining. Boy did it rain. We had such a downpour on Saturday afternoon that the rain swirled up and over the tops of the sidewalks. It was movie rain - coming down in sheets. Today looked slightly more promising in terms of weather as I wanted to go downtown to the Street Performer's Festival. It's one of the first summer festivals, and the daytime performances are (mostly) family and kid oriented. Keltie and Evan and Robert joined us downtown around 1pm. It was cloudy, but didn't look that bad. We were able to duck under cover when it drizzled during lunch, and saw a performance in one of the tents. Other than a twit who a) grabbed my butt or b) tried to pickpocket me, that performance was fine. I think it was option b, as he followed us into the square after we left the tent. I have been to enough festivals to have a routine - no purse, a small amount of cash in my pocket or mini wallet, and id/ATM card somewhere else. I warned Keltie and Robert to watch the guy - it was pretty obvious that he was following us. For lack of a better description, Robert is a large black man. He looked at the guy and that was the end of Skippy the Pickpocket. The sun decided to come out, so we headed over to the main square for some entertainment.

Sunshine?

We watched another show - an American couple who play with hula hoops and yoyos for a living. They were really funny and you could tell they love what they do. Evan entertained himself, and part of the crowd by showing off his fancy yoga moves. Lily gained an admirer - a 4 or 5 year old boy was just taken with her. He hung out and watched the show, and to Lily's great pleasure, even 'beeped' her nose. She loves doing this to us, the cat, her stuffed animals - you name it, it gets beeped. The kids clapped and cheered and were happy to donate twoonies to the performer's hats at the end.

The kids area had been closed due to the first rain, but it was open again so we headed over to let the kids burn off some energy. Lily and Evan played with jump ropes, skipits, and ribbon toys. They were selling the ribbon toys, so Keltie was sweet and picked one up for both the kids. It will be a fun outside toy.

Evan had a 'moment' and as Keltie was dealing with his 'issues' I ran into an old friend - Andrea. She was off to perform but promised to come right back to see me and meet Lily. Unfortunately, that's when the skies threatened to open again, and when Robert & Keltie & Evan decided to head out. Lily and I took shelter, hoping that it would be a brief rain, and that we would get to visit. Not so. The skies opened, there was thunder and lightning and a LOT of rain. We waited under a tent with about 20 other people. And waited. And waited.

The video is sideways, but I think you get the idea...

After about 15 minutes of waiting, people started to make a break for it. Lily looked at me and said "Mumma? Bus. Go." (The bus that stops near our house goes right to the square, so we leave the car at home and go public transportation for these events.)

So we did, stopping for coffee and hot chocolate at the Second Cup before we got on the bus. Lily was entertained the whole way home by 3 kids - 10, 8 and 6. They played peek and made faces and had Lily giggling for blocks. This made up for the fact that they were singing "This is the song that never ends" (which is now stuck in my head for all eternity) I would apologize for the video, but everyone needs to share my pain...Mwahahaaaah.

We came home to no power, and no neighbors, but that is another tale for another day.

PS - we actually didn't quite escape the rain...we still got quite wet on the way to the car.

How does Miss Lily like her ribbon on a stick? I bet it was a lot of fun to play with at the lake.

We didn't take it to the lake. It got left out in the rain so we had to leave it at home. She spent the weekend at the lake watching the kittens that live in the woodpile.
